I've advised on cases proceeding under the Civil Procedure Rules of the English Court, DIFC, ICC, LCIA, GCC Commercial Centre and DIAC arbitrations as well as arbitrations proceeding under the 1996 Arbitration Act and the Oman Arbitration Act.

I've also handled cases before tribunals in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of England and Wales; the Bahrain Centre for Dispute Resolution, the SAMA Committee, Board of Grievances and Committee for the Resolution of Securities Disputes in Saudi Arabia and the Commercial Court in Mauritius. My work has included obtaining freezing injunctions, pre-action and specific disclosure orders, Norwich Pharmacal orders, search orders, as well as preparing cases and pleadings for foreign proceedings.

As well as being a qualified solicitor in England and Wales, I'm also admitted to practise in the United Arab Emirates, meaning I am qualified to advise on matters of UAE law.

Rupert was appointed as a QC in 2014, having won 'Chancery Junior of the Year' at the Chambers Bar Awards in 2013. In the same year, he was included in the Chambers 100: UK Bar list of the top 100 junior barristers across all fields. Since 2014, he has been repeatedly identified as a 'Leader of the Bar' in Chambers Global.

He has a broad commercial and financial dispute practice, with a focus on agreements arising out of property investment, finance, development, and management, as well as wider fraud, banking, and shareholder disputes.

His practice in England is primarily in the Commercial Court and Chancery Division of the High Court and the Court of Appeal. He has a substantial overseas practice before arbitral tribunals and in the courts of offshore jurisdictions, in particular, the Dubai International Finance Centre (DIFC) Courts. His international work commonly involves issues as to interim injunctive relief, jurisdiction, applicable law and cross-border enforcement.

Rupert has an established reputation in cases in the Middle East and in London involving parties from the Gulf and wider MENA region. He is fluent in French and has a working knowledge of Arabic, and has significant experience of issues of law and practice arising in Saudi Arabia, as well as the UAE, Egypt and other civil law jurisdictions.

He co-edits the DIFC Courts Practice, the leading text-book on DIFC substantive and procedural law, to which a number of members of Chambers have contributed. In his foreword, the Chief Justice of the DIFC Courts generously commented of the editors that ‘few have made as great a contribution to the development of the laws and rules’.

He is regularly appointed as an arbitrator in commercial and property matters in the Middle East and has significant experience as co-arbitrator, chairperson and sole arbitrator in DIAC and DIFC-LCIA arbitrations. He has even wider experience as counsel in LCIA, LICA-DIFC, ICC, DIAC and LMAA arbitrations seated in Europe and the Gulf.

He is a member of both the DIAC Rules Task Force and the DIFC Court’s Arbitration Working Group.

Shane Jury is the head of our GCC commercial disputes practice and is based in our Dubai office. He has been practicing in the Middle East region for close to a decade. Shane specialises in complex commercial disputes with a particular focus on joint venture disputes, shareholders’ disputes, banking and financial disputes and investigations, and fraud claims, often involving a multi-jurisdictional angle. He also has particular expertise in restructuring/insolvency related litigation and claims.

Shane is ranked as a Rising Star by the Legal500 for Dispute Resolution: Arbitration and International Litigation.  He is also due to be ranked in the inaugural Arbitration Powerlist due to be published by Legal500 in 2022.    

Shane's practice straddles both litigation in the DIFC and ADGM Courts and arbitration under all of the major institutional rules.  He has full rights of audience in the DIFC Courts and has conducted (as Lead Counsel) the hearing of appeals and applications before the DIFC Court of Appeal and DIFC Court of First Instance.  Shane also sits as an arbitrator and has recently been appointed as a sole arbitrator on DIFC-LCIA proceedings.  

Shane has been involved in many of the landmark commercial disputes in the DIFC Courts (both at first instance and on appeal), including acting on behalf of a number of leading organisations such as Standard Chartered Bank, Deloitte & Touche, Ernst & Young, Barclays Bank Plc, Dubai International Financial Centre Authority, Emirates NBD and Agility Logistics.  His experience includes the key cases which established the extent of the DIFC Court's jurisdiction (Corinth Pipeworks v Barclays Bank; Standard Chartered Bank v IGPL).  He is a member of the DIFC Courts Rules Committee, which is a committee of eminent practitioners that advises on policy issues concerning the functioning of the DIFC Courts.

Jeremy was based in Muscat, Oman with Trowers between 2014 – 2017 as resident managing partner of our Oman office.  He continues to travel to Oman regularly where he assists a wide range of clients.

Jeremy specialises in all areas of corporate banking work acting for banks and other financial institutions as well as corporate borrowers.
