This Circle will look back on the 2024/25 tax year by sharing client responses to the legislation and exploring technical issues and difficulties that have been addressed whether the clients decided to leave, remain or arrive. It will also look to the future by discussing what has been announced and is still to be implemented and what planning if any can be done to address these future changes. The Circle would also like to take soundings on what we might expect from the Chancellor beyond what has already been announced.
The forum will bring together industry experts to unpack the budget and provide valuable insights on tax planning, global mobility, and residence options.
This Circle is kindly supported by Maisto.
Both the Conservative and Labour Governments were repeatedly warned that further tax increases particularly the widely-trailed changes to the nondom regime would damage the economy and its attractiveness to internationally mobile families. Rachel Reeves' first budget in October 2024 and the subsequent Finance Bill introduced far-reaching changes and have been described as causing a "catastrophic mess". She has refused to rule out an emergency budget. Indeed some experts fear she may "double down" on tax rises so that the Labour Government can raise more money to "invest" to stimulate growth which has otherwise stagnated. With this backdrop it is not surprising that many internationally mobile families have left; however others have decided to stay and have looked to mitigate the impact of the changes and notwithstanding or perhaps because of some of the changes others have decided to come.

Introducing the Co-Chairs for 2025: Jonathan Conder (Stephenson Harwood), and Fiona Poole (Maurice Turnor Gardner) and the Advisory Board: Alexandra Adrot (Bonnet), Xavier Nicholas (Forsters), Alberto Brazzalotto (Maisto e Associati) and Christopher Groves (Withers).
This exclusive invitation only event, involves facilitated discussions across one and a half days of content, led by our Co-Chairs and Advisory Board.
The board will curate the invite list and areas of discussion. Designed to be interactive and as inclusive as possible, there are no set-piece presentations or panel sessions with the focus being on open discussion.
The event will run in 2 broad formats: Horseshoe & Interactive roundtables, whereby we are expecting all attendees to be involved throughout. There will be assigned topic leaders for each session to get the conversation amongst all attendees started.
Given the format this is very much fluid, and we are keen to take suggestions from attendees up until the event itself as to what you would like to have covered.
