This webinar, chaired by Connie Atkinson from Kingsley Napley, will explore the emotional and legal complexities of HNW divorce in 2025. It will address the psychological challenges of separation, with Connie offering guidance on managing emotions during divorce. Edward Floyd from Farrer & Co will provide insights into the key legal challenges of the past year and predictions for the evolving landscape of family law. In parallel, Tom Quinn from Birketts will focus on later-life marriages and divorces, discussing the unique considerations for older couples, including financial and emotional factors. Together, the panel will provide a comprehensive roadmap for navigating the emotional, legal, and societal aspects of divorce in 2025.
Connie regularly assists clients who need help with their separation and the practical and financial implications arising out of this.
Most of Connie’s clients or their partners work in the City and many have an international connection. Connie therefore regularly works with solicitors in other jurisdictions. Connie has expertise in international surrogacy cases and helps parents with the parental order applications required following their children’s birth. On these cases, she works closely with members of our immigration team to resolve any issues in bringing the children home.
Connie is also a qualified mediator and assists as a mediator for clients in respect of all practical and legal issues surrounding family relationship breakdown. She is recognised as a Next Generation Lawyer in Legal 500 UK 2019 for Family: Mediation and in Chambers UK 2020 as an Associate to Watch in Family/Matrimonial.
Edward advises on all family law issues, helping clients resolve the financial issues that arise on separation, arrangements for children and marital and relationship agreements. His cases often involve high-value, multi-jurisdictional assets, including trusts and his clients include high net worth and highly compensated individuals, and their spouses.
Edward’s cases often involve an international element and he has recently presented on international family law issues at a recent European meeting of international family lawyers and at the University of Lausanne. Increasingly, he advises on pre- and post-nuptial agreements.
Widely recognised as one of a new generation of London family lawyers, Edward is ranked as a 'next generation partner' in the most recent edition of The Legal 500, and 'up and coming' by Chambers UK . A Chambers HNW commentator reported: "He has developed an encyclopaedic knowledge of international law that permeates all of his cases and is hugely beneficial to the clients that instruct him. " The Spear’s 500 guide features Edward as a ‘rising star’, with a source describing him as "one of the leading young family lawyers of his generation." His commentary on family law has been featured in the national press, including the Telegraph and the Guardian.
Tom qualified as a Solicitor in 2008 and joined Birketts in January 2022. Tom is a Partner in our Family Team and heads up our London Family Department.
Tom is a family lawyer and has accrued over 15 years of experience working at top tier firms, including Payne Hicks Beach (having worked very closely with Fiona Shackleton) and Vardags. Tom is also a member of Resolution.
Tom advises clients on all issues resulting from the breakdown of a marriage, civil partnership, or co-habitation, to include both financial and children matters, as well as pre and post-nuptial agreements and co-habitation agreements. Tom has significant experience in dealing with complex and high-value financial disputes (from the low millions to hundreds of millions), often involving trusts, and jurisdictional issues. He also advises on private children matters including residence and contact disputes, leave to remove cases, and financial claims on behalf of unmarried parents (“Schedule 1”, Children Act claims).
Tom’s client base tends to comprise high net worth and ultra high net worth individuals and his focus is always to try to conclude matters promptly and with the minimum of cost and acrimony.

Tom is a contributor to the trade press, most recently having completed a Q&A for Lexis Nexis focusing on the impact of coronavirus on financial provision.Tom graduated from Cardiff University with a BSc in Economics, Banking, and Finance, before undertaking his GDL and LPC at the University of West England.
