Sonia Velasco’s crossborder practice involves advising private clients on their investments including real estate investments, estate planning, family governance and business succession, executive compensation and pension plans. She is well versed in vehicles such as trusts, which do not have a precise counterpart in Spanish law.

She also often advises private equities, venture-capital and strategic investors, and family offices on their investments in startups and scaleups.

She worked at the Cuatrecasas New York office for three years, enabling her to work on many crossborder matters involving the United States, Canada and Latin America.

She is an active member of the American Bar Association and of the International Bar Association, where she chaired the Tax Committee from 2013 to 2015. She is also a member of the Barcelona Bar Association and of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

She lectures on taxation at ESADE Business & Law School and speaks regularly at the International Bar Association and other international forums.

Serena Cabrita Neto advises different multinational groups on transactions and operations in the energy, industry and finance sectors. She handles tax litigation, representing large national and international companies in important cases before the tax courts and also advises private clients, working with key national and international clients.

She is acknowledged by the Portuguese Bar Association as a specialist in tax law. She has been an arbitrator for tax at Centro de Arbitragem Administrativa (CAAD) since 2011.

She is a guest lecturer at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, where she lectures on tax law in the Bachelor of Laws. Since 2009, she has been in charge of the subjects Advanced issues on Personal Income Tax and Tax Proceedings in the Postgraduate studies in Taxation, and is co-director of the subject Litigation and Arbitration in the Master in Taxation.

She has authored several articles and publications on her specialty and is co-author to Manual de Contencioso e Arbitragem (Manual of Litigation and Arbitration), edited in 2017.

She is a member of the Portuguese Bar Association.

Paula Benéitez advises large business groups with a strong international focus. She advises foreign groups on their investments in Spain and on setting up in Europe and in Latin America, as well as on crossborder M&A transactions. She also advises Spanish business groups on planning and implementing their investments and transactions abroad.

She is an expert in tax and succession planning for large estates with an international focus, and in advising sports people on tax and assisting with the tax planning of big sporting events. 

She regularly advises clients on tax litigation proceedings, tax inspections, economic-administrative appeals and judicial reviews in relation to queries on interpreting double tax treaties and European Union tax matters.

She is a member of the Madrid Bar Association. She lectures at several universities and business schools, including in the Master in Tax at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and in the International Master in Tax Consultancy at ISDE Law & Business School.

She is the author of several law review articles and chapters in books on international and European Union tax matters, and she regularly speaks at national and international forums on these subjects.

Brígida Galbete was assigned to the Shanghai office until 2014, where she advised on international taxation, divestments and financial transactions.

She is a member of the Cuatrecasas Asian Desk, handling in inbound and outbound investment projects in the main Asian markets, including China, India, Japan, Korea and Singapore, and the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia.

She is a member of the financing and taxation working group of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China and of the legal working group of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce.

In Spain, she has taught seminars in the Master in Business Administration at the EAE Business School and in the Master in Legal, Economic and Socio-political Studies of Business Relationships with China at Universidad Católica de València. In China, she taught several seminars organized by these two institutions for entrepreneurs and legal practitioners. She also lectured in the summer courses organized by the School of Law of the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics
