Highlights
High profile disputes are increasingly played-out in the court of public opinion, with details of those disputes often appearing on the pages of national and trade media and debated on social media. Parties in commercial litigation can also seek to use aggressive publicity campaigns to try to undermine the opponent’s case and damage their reputations. In these types of scenarios, it can be important to work with both specialist media and reputation management lawyers and PR teams as part of the overall litigation strategy. This TL4 event will be hosted by Byfield Consultancy, who specialise in managing the communications aspects of disputes, and brings together commercial litigators, media lawyers and in-house counsel to major newspapers.
Key Discussion Topics:
- The status of legal documents and when these become public
- Considerations for commercial litigation lawyers who advise their clients on high profile disputes that attract intense publicity
- How to respond to aggressive PR including smear campaigns and fake news
- How to marry the legal PR response and PR response when dealing with damaging publications and information that could be defamatory
