Downing College, the 'newest of the old and oldest of the new'

Downing College in the University of Cambridge was founded in 1800 by the bequest of Sir George Downing. Nestled in the heart of Cambridge, Downing College's beautiful neo-classical buildings are set among 20 acres of magnificent, spacious grounds and peaceful gardens.

Known as the 'newest of the old and oldest of the new', the College was the 17th to be founded within the University of Cambridge. Originally formed ‘for the encouragement of the study of Law, Medicine and of the cognate subjects of Moral and Natural Science’ Downing provides the perfect environment for 2 days of focussed legal learning. 

Arrival at Downing College

• Downing College is only a 15-minute walk or a very short taxi ride from Cambridge Station.
• Trains from London regularly depart from Liverpool Street and King's Cross stations and take 45 minutes.
• The closest airport to Cambridge is Stansted Airport.
• Regular buses to Cambridge's Drummer Street bus station depart every hour from all major airports, as well as National Express coaches to and from all major cities in Britain.

Dress Code 

Most delegates wear smart casual for the week.

There is no requirement to be formal. Just make sure you are comfortable and relaxed.

When you Arrive

Please go to the Porter's Lodge, which is on the main road. 

You will receive directions to the conference area which is the Howard Building. 

Your room key can be collected from 2 pm on the day of your arrival from the Porter's Lodge. Please bring any baggage to the TL4 registration desk and we can look after it for you.
