Morag is a Barrister and Partner in the Tax team, specialising in litigation and the settlement of disputes.
She is experienced in helping clients find bespoke legal solutions to the most complex tax problems, and acts for clients from all over the world – including household names in sport, film and TV; international families; and other prominent individuals.
Prior to entering private practice, Morag spent time at the independent Bar, the Big Four and in-house at an investment management firm. Her deep understanding of tax and litigation procedure, coupled with her extensive experience in advising on the lawfulness of HMRC’s decisions ensures that she is able to develop strategic solutions that both assist and protect clients.
Morag offers a wide range of private client litigation and contentious tax services ranging from tribunal litigation and complex tax investigations, to cases of suspected fraud, settlement of marketed tax avoidance schemes, conduct/fairness proceedings against HMRC, and claims where incorrect tax advice has been given.
She is known for her inter-disciplinary approach to tax, which often includes working with other experts and specialists, leveraging insights from different areas of law – securing good outcomes for clients both in and out of the courtroom.
In addition to contentious work, Morag is also able to advise clients on their business interests and any possible tax risks when structuring their affairs around the world and regularly advises on the tax consequences of living or working abroad, the purchase and movement of luxury assets, and the tax implications of divorce for international couples.

Alex has 30 years’ experience in US and UK personal tax, providing complex planning and assistance to high-net-worth individuals; he joined R&H’s London US/UK Tax team from EY Frank Hirth in December 2021.
Alex’s specialist areas include: private equity, hedge funds and real estate funds, personal tax issues related to fund structuring and reward, and specialist advice for entertainment and sports clients.
Alex’s wide experience and specialist knowledge also includes the UK/US double tax treaty, pension issues, the UK treatment of limited liability company (LLC) interests and carried interest. Heading up RPC's Tax Disputes offering, Adam Craggs has over 30 years' experience in the contentious tax and white collar crime field.
An accredited mediator, Adam advises on a wide range of contentious tax issues (direct and indirect taxes), including HMRC enquiries and litigation before the Tax Tribunals/ Higher Courts, and white collar crime investigations.
During his career, he spent 16 years in the Solicitor's Office at HMRC, where he provided legal advice on a large number of high-profile civil and criminal cases.
Adam is the co-author of Tolley's 'A Practical Guide to Tax Appeals' and a contributor to 'Whiteman & Sherry on Income Tax' and 'Whiteman & Sherry on Capital Gains Tax'. He is also the author of a number of guidance notes written for Tolley's 'Online Guidance' and the author of two practice notes written for PLC on alternative dispute resolution in tax disputes and criminal prosecutions for tax fraud.

Emma has a main focus on business and employment taxes, and frequently contributes articles on topical tax issues to leading tax and accountancy publications. She has presented talks and webinars around the country, as well as appearing on BBC Radio 5Live and BBC News to discuss tax issues and providing oral evidence to committees of both the House of Lords and House of Commons.

Michelle Sloane specialises in the resolution of tax disputes and white collar crime. She advises both corporates and individuals on complex tax enquiries, tax assessments and criminal investigations.
Michelle has particular expertise in relation to VAT, and customs and excise duty disputes. Michelle has in-depth experience of high value appeals at all levels including before the Tax Tribunals, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and Court of Justice of the European Union. Her expertise includes Judicial Review proceedings scrutinising HMRC’s conduct.
She also advises those facing HMRC criminal investigations, allegations of participating in missing trader intra-community fraud and assists clients manage urgent issues such as HMRC "dawn raids".
Before moving to the UK in 2006, Michelle worked for the New Zealand government as a tax investigator and legal adviser to the tax investigations team where she gained valuable insight into the decision making process of revenue authorities

Sam has a busy practice covering the full gamut of UK tax and commercial/chancery law. He is regularly instructed in the High Court and the tax tribunals, both unled and as a specialist tax and/or property junior.
Sam read law at St John’s College, Cambridge, where he was a scholar and came 6th in the University. He then studied for the BCL at Christ Church, Oxford, obtaining a Distinction and topping the year in Personal Taxation. At the age of just 22 he was offered teaching positions at both Oxford and Cambridge and taught both land and tort law to undergraduates.
Sam’s experience of business, property and general commercial work makes him the ideal choice for complex litigation which involves issues than span beyond tax. He deals with tax issues that arise in all contexts, including sports law, professional negligence, insolvency, and judicial review. Recent instructions have come from significant UK PLCs, UHNW individuals, NHS Trusts, and the former owner of a Premier League football club.
In a former life Sam trained as a chef. He also lived in Spain taking up a unique role which included both the law and Syrian politics. Now he spends his free time with his young family, finding that most often that his cooking skills are valued more than his knowledge of tax law.
